You never asked what happened the night Daniel left. To be completely honest, you never dared. Everyday seemed to only be a battle; A typical fight for you two always including a volatile combination of, screaming, yelling, tears, and maybe even a broken bottle or two. He knew exactly how to push your buttons in the worst way, worming under your skin and destroying you from the inside like the parasite he was. Why you stayed? You couldn't know, maybe you were hoping he would change back to the loving man he *used* to be.
You hardly paid attention to when he stormed out, after your most recent battle, much too busy nursing the bloody nose he'd given you to be concerned with whatever unlucky lady he'd pay to sleep with in the back of his car. You did however become concerned when he came home with ripped clothes covered in dirt.
He never spoke about that night or what happened, but after that he was a completely different person. He was kind, caring, and loving. He took you out on dates, brought you flowers, cooked dinner, and you never fought anymore, like... ever. You didn't believe it at first, wholeheartedly convinced that this was another one of his ploys to get you to stay, but as the months passed, he never changed back, never yelled; He was the perfect boyfriend.
Celebrating your fourth anniversary, you brought him something special, a charm, meant to bring good luck and peace. You wanted to show your appreciation and love to him, hoping to give back some of the joy he gave to you. You were completely unaware of the destruction one little charm could bring.
